1)   What should I look for on the opening page?

Significant warnings/notices are posted in RED immediately following the opening paragraph.
(These are NOT a substitute for important notices listed in the Crow’s Nest.)


2)   How do I request patrol orders?
(1) The recommended method is to use POMS (Patrol Order Management System. You request orders on-line.
Under “National Links” there is a link “Setup to access POMS directly”.
(2) The 'old-fashioned method' uses e-mail. Under “National Links” there is a link “Request Patrol Orders”.


3)   How do I know which uniform to wear and when?

For MEETINGS and CLASSES YOU TEACH, wear Tropical Blue or Undress-Blue.
For PATROLS, wear Working Blue - Your coxswain specifies either “Long” or “Short.”
For EVENTS NOT LISTED HERE, e.g. training or public appearances, you will be notified by e-mail, by an announcement at a meeting or through the Crow's Nest.

4)   How do I download the forms I need?

Under “National Links” there are three links to pages used to download forms:

5)   Where can I download Manuals?

Under “National Links” there are three links download manuals. You probably will use the link labled simply "Manuals". You should look at the other two Manual links just to be sure.

6)   How can I find out if my reimbursement check for a patrol has been paid?

The Coast Guard Finance Center posts a record when a claim is paid. You need the Document Number from your Form 5132 to retrive the information. You can't find the status of a claim before it is paid.


7)   What is the difference between the Crow’s Nest e-mailed to me and the version posted on the web?

The Crow's Nest posted on the web is just a SAMPLE. The monthly Crow's Nest contains sensitive information available only to Flotilla members or other persons with the required clearance.
