| Several Boating Safety Classes are offered to the public by the Coast Guard Auxilary. The two most popular classes are "About Boating Safety" (ABS) and "Basic Skills and Seamanship" (BS&S). |

The Boating Skills and Seamanship course (BS&S) is more advanced than the ABS course but no prerequisite is needed. The BS&S course is typically offered on four Thursday evenings and one Saturday. The cost is expected to be $35/person with reductions for couples or youth (minimum age 14) who share a book .
The About Boating Safety typically occurs all on one day from 9am to 5pm, with a lunch break. The cost is expected to be $30 per person. Students receive a text book and a CD diskette. Flotilla 12-10 is pleased to offer this course in conjunction with the Georgetown Department of Recreation for the April, May and July dates. The course has been offered in a number of locations such as Coastal Carolina University's Waccamaw Center in Litchfield and at Station Georgetown.
The About Boating Safety in North Myrtle Beach is offered by Flotilla 12-2. It typically is offered all on one day or in shorter sessions spread over two days. It is usually offered at the North Myrtle Beach library.

There are a variety of advanced courses offered free to members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Examples are Advanced Navigation, Seamanship, and Communications. After taking a Boating Safety class, you may want to find out more about joining the Auxiliary.
